Adams Book a WOW
August 9, 2008 - Most golfers know who Barney Adams is, the inventor
of the Tight Lies club who started Adams Golf to provide players easy
to hit hybrids.
I picked up Adams’ new book “The Wow Factor” thinking it was about
that, golf and golf clubs etc., but found it to be something else. It’s a
business biography about the lessons learned in four decades before
making a product the market was ready to accept, in fact accepted
greedily. The sub title is revealing, “How I turned one great idea and my
unbridled enthusiasm into a golf revolution.”
As Adams puts it, readers will be interested if they are, “looking to pick
up an idea or two that would apply to a start-up or entrepreneurial
environment, someone with some curiosity about golf and the
equipment side of the industry or someone looking for a true ‘rags to
some degree of success’ story with no punches pulled in the telling.”
“First and foremost,” Adams adds, “this is a story of how one
obsessed person started from nothing and built a successful
company.”
He wasn’t building on an already successful career when Adams Golf
was started. It was out of desperation after going bankrupt with the
failure of Pelz Golf and the Featherlite shaft idea. He had invested
money in and was president of the ill-fated company, all before he
came up with the idea of a true game improvement club and made that
idea come to life.
The WOW Factor is definitely worth the read and who knows you might
find a couple of ideas to apply to your own career.

Barney Adams is an authentic, original character and
able to make it by designing a club to help the average
golfer.
