New Hybrids from Miura
By ED TRAVIS
Miura Golf has for years produced irons considered to
be among the best in the world. The company
continues its quest to become better known to
American golfers and with introduction of MG Hybrids
players will have a new reason to consider Miura.
The company makes the point that unlike larger and
better known competitors they have no set new-
product cycles, annual or otherwise. President Adam
Barr says, “New model introductions are governed by
the quality of new technology demanding it.”
Barr continued, "The days of the 'three-through-pitch'
automatic set are over. Players are putting more
thought into how they will configure their bags. So
hybrids become even more important as supporters of
the irons. The new MGs are designed with the
recognition that hybrids can be used for everything
from covering a lot of ground on par-5s to pinpoint
shots into greens on long par-4s and par-3s. As the
name 'hybrid' truly implies, these clubs play as
multipurpose long-game tools golfers can rely on."
Because hybrid and utility clubs like irons are often
aimed at specific targets, MG Hybrids have a
blade-iron design allowing better players to
concentrate on the shot outcome rather than
wondering where the ball will go. This is aided by an
I.P. Black finish which makes the head appear more
compact at address.
Miura says the MG Hybrid follows through smoothly
after impact thanks to the new Circle Cut method sole
shape featuring a line that cuts through the club's sole
from toe to heel. This creates a stepped tier in the sole
and helps optimize ball trajectory. Blade height is only
slightly larger than the diameter of a golf ball giving the
impression of an iron so players can think of it as an
iron at address and hit it the same way.
MG Hybrids come either as the HB3 (20 degrees of
loft) or the HB4 (23 degrees of loft). Both are
manufactured from SUS455 steel in an I.P. Black
finish and have a MSRP of $299 per club with graphite
shafts and $279 per club with steel shafts.
