Srixon Z-Star Tour Yellow
By ED TRAVIS, Editor FrontPageGolf.com
Here’s a trivia question – who was the first player to win on the PGA Tour
using a golf ball that was not white?
Answer: Wayne Levi won the 1982 Hawaiian Open with an optic orange
ball.
This of course was the high water mark for non-white balls during their
brief period of acceptance unless you count an even briefer resurgence a
few years ago as a fashion statement to be coordinated with a female
golfer’s top or shoes. Today non-white balls are still offered by many
manufacturers and used by a small minority of players, mostly ladies;
with the singular exception of LPGA Tour star Paula Creamer’s pink golf
balls which are both a fashion accessory and support for her brand
image.
In general therefore colored balls have been shoved to the back of the
shelf, a curiosity or maybe even an oddity.
Well, that’s not quite true. Srixon, which also owns both Cleveland Golf
and Never Compromise brands, has been working hard to expand its
share of the golf ball market and is introducing colored versions of the Z-
STAR and Z-STAR X, the Z-STAR and Z-STAR X Tour Yellow line.
According to Srixon, “By tapping into the psychology of hitting each shot
and the visualization and calming effect at address, the Z-STAR and Z-
STAR X Tour Yellow golf balls incorporate the science of visual
perception with the psychology of color effect on the human brain.”

In other words the ball color will help calm you so you can play better.
Low to mid handicap golfers are the target audience for the Z-STAR Tour
Yellow with Srixon saying it’s “the best-balanced golf ball for the low-to-
mid handicap players, seeking a combination of long distance, spin
control and soft feel.” The Z-STAR X Tour Yellow “is a distance-oriented
tour-performance ball for players looking for explosive distance and high-
spin performance around the greens.”
Available in shops April 1 both carry a MAP of $40.
