New Tour B330 ball from Bridgestone
Kuchar playing on Tour and at Ryder Cup
By ED TRAVIS
Matt Kuchar had a great year on the PGA Tour and this
week is in Wales as a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup
team. Part of his equipment is the Bridgestone B300-S
golf ball, a prototype of which he has been playing on
Tour the latter part of the year.
The newest update of the popular B330 series has a
different material in the dual mantle of the Tour B330 and
Tour B330-S called RD10 resin which gives high swing
speed players greater initial velocity with softening of the
mantle layer.
According to Dan Murphy, vice president of marketing,
“With the new B330 family of balls we’re letting better
players know that it’s OK to be long. We’ve heard our high-
swing speed customers loud and clear, and the
overwhelming majority still want one thing in their golf
balls, more distance. According to a recent consumer
survey we conducted, golfers are very pleased with our
balls’ spin performance around the greens. The thing
every golfer wanted was more length. With all the industry
spin on the new grooves out there right now, we think it is
important that someone let golfers know what is really
going to improve their scores – better length and
accuracy. Neither of which comes from creating more
spin.”
The new dual mantle design has faster rebound and
produces lower spin rates for tour-level swing speeds.
Lower spin off the longer clubs means more distance and
the B330s gradual change in hardness from the center
core to cover gives, according to Bridgestone, “…the
smoothest and most efficient power transition of any Tour
ball, ever. This means booming distance and superior
accuracy off of longer clubs.”
The 2011 model B330 and B330-S retain a urethane
330-dimple cover but the design has been reworked for a
shallower dimple with modifications to the spacing to
create a flatter trajectory and better performance in the
wind.
Bridgestone emphasizes the Tour B330 and Tour B330-S
are meant for players with swing speeds of 105 mph and
higher. The street price is $42.99 per dozen and they
should be on shelves Nov. 1.
