Adams Speedline Driver

It’s interesting that Adams Golf touts their position as maker of the most often used
hybrid on the PGA Tour (over 30% of all hybrids in 2008) and much less about their
longer clubs. However in the 2009 iteration of the unending battle for the attention of the
golf consumer they do seem to found a slightly different wrinkle.

The new Speedline drivers are said by Adams to provide more club head speed due to
less aerodynamic drag because of the head design. According to company wind tunnel
data the difference can be significant – three to four mph club head speed which
translates into as much as nine yards more distance on tee shots.

Designed with what is called an “aero-shaped crown” plus sculpted areas in the heel
and toe areas Adams says, “This revolutionary technology is forecasted to have the
same game-changing effect on the industry as high-COR drivers.” Whether you take
this at face value or as pr hyperbole the fact remains the Speedline is a nice looking
well designed driver.

As Scott Burnett, Director of Advanced Product Development, said,” “We saw an
opportunity when the extreme geometry drivers continually tested with higher drag and
lower clubhead speed. By changing the aerodynamic properties of the face and crown
in order to keep the airflow attached, we were able to deliver a significant distance
advantage for the average player and tour pro alike.”

Speedline drivers are available in either standard or draw (closed face) version, both
utilizing a Graffalloy ProLaunch Axis shaft at a MSRP of $399.99 but look for a street
price of $300.
