Tour360 LTD - Shoes for Your Game
June 7, 2008 - I enjoy observing the marketing wars between the
behemoths in the golf business…after all it’s a gentlepersons sport
waged.
The shoe business is a part of the industry which doesn’t get a lot of
attention by the media but I was struck by adidas’ promo line for their
new Tour360 LTD model, “Don’t just wear your shoes, play
them.”
adidas Golf’s Tour360 LTDs are an entry in the high end ($250 pair)
utilizing THiN-tech that does away with padding in the sole replacing it
with a one-piece TPU sole they say gets your feet closer to the ground
– 10mm versus the more usual 13mm at the front and 20mm instead
of 26mm in the heel.  They also added three cleats making a total of
ten for better grip.
"It's said that golf is a game of inches, but we believe it's a game of
millimeters. That's often the difference between a solid shot and a mis-
hit," said Dave Ortley, global director of footwear. "Tour professionals
advised us that they wanted to get closer and more connected to the
ground to increase the consistency and purity of their ball-striking.
THiN-Tech incorporates a one-piece TPU sole that positions the foot
closer to the ground. That creates a remarkably solid, responsive and
stable shoe that makes hitting a golf ball a more tactile experience. It
also lowers the athlete's center of gravity to promote increased stability,
and channels feedback from the ground more efficiently to promote
improved footwork. That helps the athlete hit the ball more solidly,
more often."
The Tour360 LTDs also use the popular Powerband Chassis and
uppers are full-grained leather with a mono-tongue construction. They
carry a 2-year water proof guarantee and are in stores now offering a
choice of three colors and two widths.
