MacGregor - Back to Its Roots?
There a lot of interest in the golf business about what the changes will be to
MacGregor Golf now that Greg Norman is in charge and for 2008 it appears the
company is going back to its roots as an innovative maker especially of irons with
the introduction of the MT product line. MT replaces the MACTEC brand which first
hit the streets in 2005 but never gained any traction with players.
MacGregor’s North American president Reid Gorman put it well, reflecting both on
the company 2007 recapitalization and the new club lineup. “Our primary objective
with the MT product line is to re-establish consumer confidence in MacGregor Golf
and to once again become the club of choice for players at every skill level.
MacGregor has a proud history in this great industry and is committed to providing
high performing products to golf consumers that are true to the game,” said
Gorman.
Of the MT line we were especially attracted to
the PRO-C and PRO-M irons as being good
looking, traditional in style and reminiscent of
the MT brand of yesteryear.
PRO-M irons are a muscle back design
forged from 1025 carbon steel with a
compact profile and CNC milled back and
face aimed at professionals and very low
handicap amateurs. The PRO-Cs are similar
but have a milled back cavity and more offset
for use by those of us who need a little
forgiveness in our irons.
The MT line also includes a new driver,
wedges and irons built for higher handicap
players and seniors.
